Custom software built around the way your organisation works
We design, build and support the software that makes your organisation easier to deal with and easier to run.
Common starting points
- Customers still phone or visit for things they could do online Customer portals
- Staff enter the same information into more than one system System integration
- Day-to-day work depends on spreadsheets and manual processes Internal web applications
- An ageing Access or SQL Server system only one person understands Legacy modernisation
- Building software in Hobart since 2000
- Supported by the people who built it

What we build, and what changes for you
Datawise builds customer portals, system integrations and internal web applications, and modernises older systems, for government departments, agencies and organisations.
Discuss your projectCustomer portals
Customers register, apply, renew and check progress online, instead of phoning or coming to the counter.
Each transaction reaches the system that holds the record, so customers get an answer they can rely on.
System integration
Information is entered once and moves securely between your services and the systems that hold the records.
Our current work includes secure access from the Tasmanian Government’s online services gateway and controlled access for other agencies, so each person sees only what they are entitled to.
Internal web applications
One web application replaces the spreadsheets and workarounds, runs in a browser, and is designed to work well on mobile devices where appropriate.
We have built applications for rostering and time attendance, membership management, project management, and scientific and engineering data capture.
Legacy modernisation
The old Microsoft Access or SQL Server system becomes a maintainable web application, with its data and business rules carried across.
The data is checked against the original before anything is switched off, and the old system can stay available read-only for a period.
See the Access to SQL Server projectFeatured project: online customer services for a Tasmanian Government agency
A customer portal that lets people deal with a Tasmanian Government agency online, connected securely to the systems that hold the records.
- Government sign-in Customers reach the portal securely from the Tasmanian Government’s online services gateway.
- Customer portal Registration, licensing, moorings, commercial-vessel services and related transactions, online.
- Specialist back-end systems Where the records are held.
- Service Portal Controlled access for government service centre staff and approved agencies, such as Police and Fisheries.
Our role: building the connections between these government-facing services and the specialist back-end systems behind them.
The work has also included rebuilding legacy applications as maintainable web applications.
A Hobart team that stays with your system
Systems like these run for years, so who looks after them matters as much as who builds them.
-
The people who build it, support it
The developers who build your system go on supporting it, and a small change does not need a new project each time.
-
A person to talk to
Call the office during business hours and you speak with someone from the team doing the work.
-
Mainstream Microsoft technology
We build with .NET, C#, ASP.NET and SQL Server, platforms many developers know well, so another developer could take the system on if you ever needed.
Questions before you start
Anything else, call 03 6224 1231 and talk it through.
How does a software project with Datawise start?
With a conversation about what the system needs to do. Larger projects then have a scoping stage that ends in a written specification and quote, and once building starts you see working software at regular intervals.
Can you take on a system someone else built?
Yes. The Access databases in our SQL Server migration project were not written by us, so the work began by establishing exactly what they did.
Who owns the software once it is finished?
You do. The application and the data are yours, and the arrangements for the source code are set out in the agreement before work starts.
Will the application work on a phone or tablet?
Where the people using it need that, yes. We build web applications and design them to work well on mobile devices where appropriate.
Tell us about the system you need
Call the office, or send a short description of what the system needs to do and what it would replace. We will talk it through with you.
