Two areas of work

Software development

For government departments, agencies and organisations

Customer portals, system integrations, internal web applications, and older Access and SQL Server systems modernised. Substantial, long-term work rather than one-off projects.

IT support

For small-to-medium organisations without a complete IT department

Helpdesk, remote and on-site support, Microsoft 365, networks, business internet and phones, and business hardware.

The people you will be dealing with

A small, experienced team. The person who answers your call knows your systems, and whoever designs a system looks after it.

Jason Cook, Consulting Director at Datawise

Jason Cook

Consulting Director · Founder

Jason came to IT from electronic and communications engineering. He established Datawise in 2000 and was Managing Director until 2020, and he now assists with the overall technical design and architecture of our software and network systems.

He has more than twenty years’ experience as a trainer, developer and network systems consultant, focused on Microsoft technologies.

David Kerr, Managing Director at Datawise

David Kerr

Managing Director · Customer Service Manager

David joined Datawise in 2019 from the Commonwealth Bank, where he spent seven years as an infrastructure designer and worked on several large data centre consolidations. He has extensive experience with public cloud and large internal virtualised platforms.

Behind that are more than twenty years across banking and finance, telecommunications and government, mostly in the Microsoft back-office space. He has since become customer service manager and a director of the company.

Here for the long term, not the single job

We are not trying to be the largest IT company in Tasmania. We would rather still be looking after the same organisations in another twenty-six years.

  1. A person on the phone

Call the office during business hours and you speak to someone at Datawise. Support requests are triaged the same business day.

  2. We get to know your organisation

So the systems we build and the support we give fit the way you operate.

  3. We tell you when not to spend

Sometimes the right advice is an off-the-shelf product, or another two years from a server. We give it even when it costs us the work.

  4. Every job quoted in writing

Before work starts, so there is no doubt about what has been agreed.

Not-for-profit and community organisations

Not-for-profits are an established part of our client base, and receive a 10% discount.

What we recommend is practical and appropriate: the system or equipment that suits the way you work and what you need it to do.

10% Discount for not-for-profit organisations

Examples of our community-sector work

  • Membership management software for not-for-profits, unions and other membership-based organisations
  • A wireless network for a community organisation, with guest access kept separate from the main office network

A Hobart office, with clients across Tasmania

Most of our clients are in Hobart and the south, and we also work with organisations in Launceston, Devonport and the north and north-west.

  • Support is mostly remote, usually the quickest way to resolve a fault, and available anywhere in Australia. When a job needs someone on site, one of our staff attends.
  • Software development is less tied to location: past projects include project management software for international aid projects.

Questions about Datawise

Do you work only with Microsoft products?

Microsoft is where most of our experience lies, and we have been a Microsoft Partner since 2002. For computers and other hardware we are not tied to one manufacturer.

What if a job needs a specialist you don’t have?

We will tell you rather than attempt it, and point you to a provider who is better suited.

Can we visit the office?

Yes. We are at 30 Salamanca Square, Hobart. Please call ahead so that the person you need isn’t out on a site visit.
