Common questions about working with Datawise

Software development, IT support, quotes and where we work. If your question is not here, call the office and ask.

Software development

What kind of software do you build?

Customer portals, system integrations, internal web applications, and older Microsoft Access and SQL Server systems modernised as maintainable web applications. It is substantial, long-term work for government departments, agencies and organisations, and applications are designed to work well on mobile devices where appropriate.

How do you quote a software project?

In writing, once we understand your requirements: how your organisation operates, what the system has to achieve, and the budget and timeframe it has to fit. Development then has check points, so you can see how the system is working against what you expected.

Who owns the software you build for us?

You do, both the application and the data. How the source code is handled is set out in the agreement before work starts.

Do you build websites?

No. We refer website enquiries to The Tasmanian Web Company.

IT support

Do you support home computers?

No. Our IT support is for organisations, usually small-to-medium businesses and not-for-profits without a complete IT department of their own.

What are your support hours?

The helpdesk operates Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm.

How quickly do you respond?

Support requests are triaged the same business day. Anything that stops people working is dealt with first: email down, a server offline, no internet, or a fault affecting several staff. For those, please call rather than email.

How do existing clients log a support request?

Call the office on 03 6224 1231, email support@datawise.com.au, use the support request form, or log it in the help desk portal. The portal also shows what else has been logged from within your organisation.

Can you help an organisation that is not yet a client?

Yes. Call 03 6224 1231 or send an enquiry through the contact page and tell us what is happening. The support form and portal are for existing clients.

Do you come on site?

Yes. We attend sites regularly across southern Tasmania, including Hobart, Kingston, Glenorchy, Sorell, Brighton, the Huon Valley and Richmond. Launceston, Devonport and the north-west are covered by arrangement, and remote support is available anywhere in Australia.

Can you work alongside our existing IT provider or internal staff?

Yes. We often take on one project while your existing provider runs day-to-day support, and an internal IT person may call on us as a specialist or to cover leave.

Working with Datawise

Do you publish prices?

No. Every organisation’s requirements are different, so every job is quoted in writing before work begins.

What happens when we first get in touch?

Someone from the team talks through what you need, by phone, on a video call or in our office. If we are not the right fit, we would rather establish that early and refer you to someone who is.

Do you work with not-for-profit organisations?

Yes. Not-for-profit and community organisations are an established part of our work, and not-for-profits receive a 10% discount. What we recommend is practical and appropriate to the organisation.

Where are you based, and where do you work?

Our office is at 30 Salamanca Square, Hobart, and most of our clients are in southern Tasmania. Some of our staff are based in Sydney, and software development is less tied to location than on-site support.

How long has Datawise been operating?

Datawise Consulting Pty Ltd was established in Hobart in 2000, and we have been a Microsoft Partner since 2002.
